Dragon boat race planned

Local charities have got together to launch Preston's first Dragonboat race for this year's Guild.

It's to be held in June and each boat will have twenty paddlers and have to cover a two hundred and fifty metre course.

Teams will take part in a number of heats throughout the  event.

The 9 charities involved include the Royal Air Forces Association, St Catherine's Hospice, Derian House Children's Hospice, NSPCC, Christian Aid, Galloways, Age Concern, Heartbeat, CaritasCare

Said Darrell Slater - Smith of the Royal Air Forces Association, "We are delighted to launch the inaugural Charity Dragonboat Event for Preston Guild which promises to be a truly memorable event. The Guild Year is a highly prestigious occasion in the Lancashire calendar and this will be a focal point within the Guild celebrations."
