Lancashire Council bosses are praising an intiative that is trying to improve the prospects for young people in Lancashire.
Schemes design to reduce the number not in employment, education or training appear to be working above expectations.
The number of young people who were in this position in January is 6.2% which is lower than the County's target of 6.7%.
Over recent weeks the Young People Service has held a number of events in Accrington, Colne and Leyland to promote further education and employment.
"When you take the current economic climate into account, this is a fantastic achievement," said County Councillor Mark Perks, cabinet member for young people.
"The young people's service (YPS) has established positive and constructive relationships with a range of providers and partners to offer young people support and guidance in making ! positive choices about their career and learning opportunities and to secure suitable training or work."
